Betty Jo Woodhouse completed her studies at Norfolk State
University receiving both B.A. and M.A. degrees in Art Education and Visual
Studies.
Her work often involves using memorable characters in environments that convey
moods and express true grace to the viewer. Some figures appear
"suspended in time" to draw the viewer into her work so that they
may truly experience each character's story. To further enhance the realism
of each expression. Mrs. Woodhouse ensures that her characters are full
of definition.
Since her beginning, Mrs. Woodhouse has received numerous awards and recognition
for her achievements. Her most prestigious honors include her "Best
In Show" award at the Seawall art show in Portsmouth, Virginia and her
exclusive interview on a video entitled Images and Ideas: Ten Black Artists" produced
by the Chrysler Museum.
She is a retired art teacher and resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She
is married to Calvin and is a mother of two sons, Calvin Jr. and DeCarlo.
